Connecting digital talents with innovative businesses

User Research

Product Design

Blend was originally a 360-content library. They saw an opportunity to bring clients and creators together through the creation of a marketplace.

Connecting professionals

The main purpose of the platform would be to get clients and creators to push the boundaries of communication together, through daring projects.

Allowing to find work

The platform, however designed, could not work without a streamlined job searching experience. I would have to learn what makes a XR job listing great.

Facilitating payments

Part of what draws people to marketplaces is the security they bring in contracts and payments. The system would have to be flexible, but profitable.

Allowing to post projects

I believe there is a link between the pertinence of a listing and the quality of the experience one feels when creating it. I was to be proven right.

As conversations went on, feedback was collected thematically on a large board, split between clients and creators.

I developed a system structure with the goal of uniting teams under a shared vision of the company's design ethos.

I narrowed it down to three personas, each with their own distinct needs, challenges, and expectations. Enough to get me started.

This is new

I need to know what the ROI will be as this is a new way for me to communicate.

XR is my business

I work or own an agency, and know what skills I need to hire. I have my own specific payment processes.

XR is my craft

I want to work on the best possible projects. I need to know my client is serious and committed.

I used live remote user testing as validation method. We tested two routes which varied in their layouts and project management structure.

One route per persona

Clients differed in their knowledge of the technology. We created a route for each, one containing a lot more handholding, the second based on the assumption they would know what to look for.

Role playing

We did not jump straight into testing. Participants would be asked questions first, and put in context if necessary to ensure their reactions and thoughts would be as genuine and authentic as possible.

Going full circle

In some instances, I was able to interview the same participant at the point of research and problem framing, then show them possible routes days later. This proved very valuable with gauging the pertinence of a solution.

I separated the experiences of clients and creators for clarity, but made connections easier through an efficient messaging system.

The listing is a pivotal point of the experience, as it must communicate the necessary information in the correct quantity and sequence.

Structuring the listing

The placement of each section on the page was determined by the value it holds to creators looking for potential new projects.

Time-saving images

I added a moodboard feature as it helped clients and creators frame the project vision faster by looking at existing related work.

I aimed at instilling trust through meticulous attention to design and interactions across the entire user experience.

I introduced the concept of milestones to address the practice of creators breaking down their work into sections when submitting offers.

Creating an offer

This page meets the expectations of both parties by allowing creators to showcase and promote themselves, while also enabling the creation of detailed project segments. Clients, in turn, receive a succinct and personalised breakdown of the offer.

Creating milestones

I designed milestones to include the name, pricing, delivery date, and a personal description, providing creators with comprehensive tools for work organisation and invoicing planning.

Funding milestones

Clients can choose to accept, reject, or request edits to a received quote. The project becomes official upon funding the first milestone, ensuring protection for both parties as the funds are held in escrow by the marketplace.

Lasting connections depend on effective communication. Messaging is core to the experience, always accessible with just a click.

Accessible at all times

Communication is pivotal in fostering successful business relationships. I crafted messaging to resemble a familiar chat experience, accessible seamlessly from anywhere and at any time.

Sharing files

The output of a Blend-induced cooperation is likely to be visual, and could take many formats. The file sharing feature is designed to provide clear information about file names, download status, and format types.

Profiles

I incorporated a profile feature into the messaging experience as it facilitated conversations by enabling clients to find answers to their initial questions in the profiles of their interlocutors.

There was an even split in device usage. Messaging was designed to perform equally on all devices.

Blend Market went on to grow, and secure a series-A round of investment. The platform is still going strong in 2023.
